History and Origin
Bulldog is a small-statured, and medium-sized dog. Specifically, the Bulldog was trained and bred to fight bulls for sport, starting in England in the 13th century and throughout Europe until the mid-19th century. During World War II, bulldogs were often likened to Winston Churchill (British Prime Minister) and his defiance of Deutsches Reich (Nazi Germany).
Although it is clear that the Bulldog was originally developed in Britain more than 500 years ago, over the centuries, this breed of dog has undergone several changes. It became one of the most popular breeds in the dog fancy. This breed has become today’s docile and loving pet.
Bulldogs are one of the few dog breeds whose tail is naturally short, straight, or thin, so they aren’t cut or docked like some other breeds. The coat of the bulldog is flat, glossy, thick, smooth, and fine-textured with standard colors including red, white, fawn, piebald, and brindle.
According to The American Kennel Club (AKC), bulldogs are a non-sporting group, and The United Kennel Club (UKC), bulldogs are a companion dog group. In the United States, the male bulldog weighs is 55 pounds (55 lbs) and the female bulldog weighs is 50 pounds (50 lbs) but in the United Kingdom, the male bulldog weighs is 55 pounds (50 lbs) and the female bulldog weighs is 40 pounds (40 lbs).
